ABOUT ME

I am Katherine Atkinson, an actor, singer, and dancer originally from Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up, a career in the arts was not the most obvious path for me to take. I grew up in a family of doctors. Although I admired their passion for and dedication to helping others through medicine, I found myself drawn to building and healing my community differently. I grew up singing in choirs, cars, and kitchens, along with any song, lyrics optional. I feel music is a powerful way of communicating the things we often can't put into words.  My love of music led me to audition for a school musical, which unleashed my love for acting; I never looked back. I had an instant sensation of belonging and purpose. I spent several years working with Fabrefaction Theatre Conservatory in Atlanta, getting to perform alongside and learn from professional actors. I spent my high school years performing on stage, directing/student-producing full-length musicals off stage, and, becoming the first IB Theatre student to graduate from my high school, establishing a path for those behind me. I found my passion and career path, pursuing a BFA in Acting at Boston University.

While studying at Boston University, I have deepened my love for language, whether that be through words, music, or movement. I have had the opportunity to perform in roles such as The Solicitor in A Dream Play by Carol Churchill, M in Passage by Christopher Chen, Huldy in The Moors, and Shelby in Spitfire Grill: A Musical. The characters I stepped into left their mark on my journey, each whispering their own secrets into the winds of my growth. I also studied Dance, not only furthering my technique but discovering my love for choreography and movement direction, creating and performing my own piece in Aurora Borealis: The Festival of Light and Dance.

I have always been in love with language, studying French since elementary school and enjoying time in Toulouse as a foreign exchange student. My passion for foreign languages laid the foundation for my love of classical text. I spent a semester studying Shakespeare at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where I found a new passion for stage combat!

I recently graduated in May of 2023 with a BFA in Acting, a minor in dance, and a concentration in musical theatre. I am currently based in NYC!
